Getting the best grocery prices is no longer a matter of going to the supermarket that offers the best prices. Now you can put convenience first by shopping online or at your closest store and still get the best price. These are the best cards for grocery shopping to help you get the best deal!
Habib Bank Limited
Habib Bank Limited (HBL) offers grocery discounts not only through direct card discounts but also through their rewards program. Let’s start with car discounts.
Mycart Grocery Discounts
You can get 10% off when using HBL card on mycart. Mycart is an online grocery delivery platform operating in Karachi. The online store carries various categories including grocery, beverages, dairy, bakery, snacks and personal care items.
The offer is valid on all products, and the following terms apply:
- Capped at PKR 200.
- Customer can avail the discount for a maximum of two times per card.
- Offer is valid for customers in Karachi only.
- Offer is valid for shopping till 30th November 2020, 11:59 pm.
Grocery Discounts Using Rewards Points
HBL offers reward points on every Point of Sale (POS) transaction completed using an HBL Credit card. This offer is available on all cards including HBL Green, Gold and Platinum Visa Credit Cards.
For every PKR 25 spent on domestic transactions, one reward point is earned. Alternatively, three reward points are earned for every foreign currency spent equivalent to PKR 25.
Once sufficient reward points are collected, these may be redeemed at various merchants across the country. Merchants include food, fuel and grocery, among others.
For grocery, you can redeem 2000 reward points for a PKR 500 cash voucher to be used at Olive Grocery Store and Milestone Supermarket.
For 4000 points, you can get a cash voucher worth PKR 1000 for Aghas Supermarket, Naheed Supermarket, Olive Grocery Store and Milestone Supermarket. Also available at these three grocery stores is a PKR 5000 voucher on the redemption of 20,000 points.
HBL offers some good discounts if you use your card frequently. However, grocery merchants are limited to Karachi for now. For other cities, you may find Bank Alfalh to be a better choice.
Silk Bank
Mycart Discount
Similar to HBL, Silk Bank also has a promotion on mycart. You can get up to PKR 500 off on mycart per transaction when using your Silk Bank credit card on the mycart.pk website.
The offer is valid on all products, and the following terms apply:
- Get 5% Discount on shopping of Rs. 1,500 and above, capped at Rs. 500/- on Silk Bank Gold & Platinum Credit Cards.
- Customer can avail the discount for a maximum of two times per card.
- Offer is valid for customers in Karachi only.
- Offer is valid for shopping till 30th November 2020, 11:59 pm.
Hum Mart Discount
Hum Mart is another online grocery delivery service run by the Hum Group.
The online service offers fruits, vegetables and snacks, among the regular grocery staples. These categories are very similar to mycart. However, it adds to those by also offering meat, seafood, electronics and pet care items.
Using a Silk Bank credit card on Hum Mart, you can get flat 10% off on your transaction. The offer is only valid for customers in Karachi, and the following are some more terms and conditions:
- This Promotion is subject to all applicable terms and conditions of Hum Mart.
- This discount will be applicable on HumMart website & app orders only.
- A maximum discount cap of Rs 1,000
- Discount applicable on a minimum transaction of Rs 2,000
- Silk Bank reserves the right to discontinue/cancel/stop any discount offering without providing prior notice or reason.
- Silk Bank will not be held responsible for any complaints or liabilities whatsoever that arise concerning products and services availed from Hum Mart using this offer.
Cashback Discounts
Additionally, Silk Bank offers up to 1% cashback on all transactions completed using the bank’s credit card.
On gold Silk Bank credit cards, you can get up to 1% cashback of the transaction value back into your account. For Visa Gold Credit Card, the cashback is 0.5% on both domestic and international transactions.
Alternatively, if you are using the Platinum Credit Card for international transactions, you get 1% cashback. However, domestic transactions will still earn you only 0.5%.
In contrast, to reward points, these cashbacks appear in your bank account as a normal cash balance. Therefore, these cashbacks can be used anywhere as a regular transaction, including grocery stores.
Faysal Bank
Reward Points Discounts
When using a Faysal Bank credit card, you can earn one point on every PKR 50 spent on domestic transactions. Alternatively, if you conduct an international transaction, you earn double the points.
These apply to Faysal Bank’s Velocity, Blaze, Platinum and World credit cards. On the other hand, Titanium credit card offers one reward point for every PKR 75 spend at opposed to PKR 50.
Following the collection of these rewards, you can redeem these points at various merchants across the country. For grocery stores, partner merchants include Aghas Supermarket, Naheed Supermarket and Metro Cash & Carry. Except for Metro C&C which is available nationwide, the other grocery merchants are Karachi only.
Points conversion turns out as one point worth 40 paisas. As such, if you collect 20,000 points, you can buy grocery worth PKR 500 for free.
Standard Chartered
Cashback at Grocery Stores
Using Standard Chartered’s MasterCard Cashback Credit Card at supported category merchants lets you earn up to 5% cashback on transactions.
When shopping at grocery stores, you can earn up to PKR 500 cashback on transaction amounts up to PKR 10,000. For example, if you purchase PKR 1000 worth of groceries, you get PKR 50 as cashback in your account.
The offer applies to grocery, fuel and electronic merchants. There is a monthly cap on grocery cashbacks of PKR 500 and a total monthly cashback cap across categories of PKR 1000.
Compared to other credit cards, Standard Chartered offers this reward on all grocery stores across Pakistan. Therefore, it is not limited like the other cards on this list.
Bank Alfalah
Discounts at Grocery Stores
Bank Alfalh is the only bank on this list to offer a direct discount at a physical grocery store. You can get a 5% discount on Rehman Super Store in Lahore. This offer is applicable when using any Bank Alfalah Debit Card.
Additionally, 10% off is on offer at Khyber Store in Islamabad and Punjab Cash & Carry in Rawalpindi. This discount is also available on all Bank Alfalh Debit Cards.
Orbit Reward Points and Cashbacks
In addition to discounts, Bank Alfalah also offers reward points and cashbacks that vary with the type of credit card.
For every PKR 50 spend using the bank’s Classic and Classic Gold Credit Card, you earn 0.25 Orbit Points. Alternatively, when using a Titanium or Platinum Credit Card, you can earn 0.25 Orbit Points on domestic and 0.5 Orbit Points on international transactions.
One Orbit Point is worth PKR 1 and is redeemable at various merchants. However, most grocery stores where you can redeem the points are located in Lahore.
Bank Alfalah’s Ultra Credit Card is the most premium card offering 7% cashback. This means you can get up to PKR 1,500 per month in cashbacks when using your Ultra Credit Card for POS transactions.
Cashbacks are available when shopping for groceries, fuel, hotels, airline tickets and at hospitals. There is an annual cap of PKR 12,000 in cashbacks.
